When to visit:

• Late October to early February is the best time to visit. Temperatures range from 18–26°C, with low rainfall and generally dry, comfortable weather.

• March is also relatively pleasant, with mild temperatures, but it tends to be humid and rainy.

• April to September is generally hot, with daytime highs often exceeding 33°C. From July to September, heavy rainstorms and typhoons are also common, making travel less comfortable.

Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport (SZX)

The airport is about 32 km from the city center. The easiest way to reach downtown is by ride-hailing or the metro.

Shenzhen North Railway Station

Shenzhen has several railway stations, but Shenzhen North is the main transportation hub. It connects high-speed trains to Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Beijing with the most frequent departures.

If you are staying at the Pullman Shenzhen North:

• The hotel is located just northeast of the station, about a 5-minute walk away.

Getting from Guangzhou to Shenzhen

Guangzhou is about 102 km from Shenzhen. The best way to travel is by high-speed rail from Guangzhou South (Guangzhounan) Railway Station.

You can choose between two arrival stations in Shenzhen depending on your hotel location:

Option 1: Arriving at Shenzhen North (Shenzhenbei)

• Travel time: 29–38 minutes.

Getting from Hong Kong Airport to Shenzhen

Hong Kong International Airport is about 35 km from Shenzhen. Here are the three best ways to make the trip:

Option 1: Taxi (Most convenient)

• Follow the airport signs to the taxi stand. The queues are divided by destination—look for the line for Green Taxis (New Territories).
• Tell the driver you want to go to Shenzhen Bay Port.
• Fare: Around HKD 250.
• Travel time: About 30 minutes.
• Next Steps: Once you arrive at Shenzhen Bay Port, go through border control (takes about 15–30 minutes). After clearing customs, you can take a taxi or the metro to your hotel. Option 2: Public Bus (Cheapest option)

• Follow the signs in the airport to the Ground Transportation Centre (Bus Terminus).
• Take Bus A36 and get off at Hung Kiu Station 红桥(Yuen Long direction).
• Transfer to Bus B3X which goes directly to Shenzhen Bay Port.

• Pros & Cons: It is about a 30-minute drive to downtown, but it is a massive transportation hub with endless connections across China. If you only plan to stay in Shenzhen for one night, arriving here and staying nearby is highly recommended.

Important Tips:

• Allow Extra Time: Since you are crossing the border, you will go through border control (both Hong Kong and Mainland China customs) inside West Kowloon Station. We highly recommend arriving at the station at least 1 hour before your departure.
• Missed Your Train? Don’t worry. If you miss your train, you can usually change your ticket for free to another train on the same day. Just talk to the station staff within 1 hour after your scheduled departure.

• Rush Hour Tip: Try to avoid traveling between 7:00–9:30 AM and 5:00–7:30 PM. During these times, both the roads and the metro stations become incredibly packed with commuters.

Safety note
Some e-bike riders do not always follow traffic rules (such as ignoring traffic lights or riding fast on sidewalks). Please stay alert and watch your surroundings when walking around the city.

Robotaxis (Driverless Cars)
China is actively testing autonomous ride-hailing services in several major cities, and Shenzhen is at the forefront of this trend. If you want to experience a driverless ride, you can book one via the Pony.ai Mini-Program inside WeChat. However, keep a few things in mind:

• Limited Coverage: The service currently only operates in selected areas of Shenzhen.

• Wait Times: Availability is limited, so expect waiting times of around 5–20 minutes.

• Fixed Stops Only: Unlike regular Didi cars, Robotaxis will not pull over just anywhere. The system will direct you to the nearest fixed pickup and drop-off points to avoid narrow residential alleys, schools, hospitals, and other heavily crowded areas.

• Cost & Speed: The fares are generally cheaper than regular Didi rides, but the driving speed is slightly slower and more cautious.

Shenzhen Talent Park

One of the best places to experience Shenzhen’s modern urban landscape.

Shenzhen Talent Park is an open, unfenced public green space surrounding a lake. It is a large waterfront park designed for walking, jogging, and relaxing.

The park was built in 2017 to reflect Shenzhen’s identity as a city that values innovation. Throughout the park, you will find several design elements related to this theme. One of the highlights is the Talent Star Bridge, which features 30 illuminated pillars engraved with the names of Shenzhen’s top scientists, tech founders, and leading engineers. It is often described as Shenzhen’s version of the “Walk of Fame.”

The park offers great views of the surrounding skyline, which is lined with the headquarters of major tech giants like Tencent, ByteDance, Xiaomi, and OPPO.

Nantou Ancient Town

Nantou Ancient Town has a history dating back around 1,700 years. It once served as a regional administrative center governing a massive area that included present-day Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

In recent decades, however, the area gradually evolved into a dense, somewhat chaotic “urban village” (a unique Chinese phenomenon where historic rural enclaves were swallowed up by rapid city growth). Around 2019, the neighborhood underwent a massive revitalization project. While basic infrastructure like electricity and water systems were upgraded, many buildings along the main streets were renovated to house independent bookstores, design studios, cafes, and art spaces.

The most fascinating part? If you step off the main paths into the side alleys, you will still find a fully lived-in neighborhood home to around 30,000 local residents.

Summary: Do not expect a perfectly preserved, historical ancient town. Instead, it is best understood as a creative hipster district blending authentic local life with modern cultural spaces. If you love wandering through narrow alleys, people-watching, and exploring boutique shops, it is well worth a visit.

Inside, the 6-floor museum hosts interactive exhibitions covering cutting-edge topics like big data, artificial intelligence, 5G technology, smart logistics, aerospace, and life sciences. Due to the complexity of the concepts, the exhibits are best suited for middle school students, teenagers, and older children.

It is famous worldwide for its insane speed—industry insiders joke that you can have an idea in the morning, a prototype in the afternoon, and mass production within a week.

Is it right for you?

• Go if: You are a tech enthusiast who wants to see an unbelievable ocean of gadgets, components, and quirky tech, or if you are looking to source components in bulk.

• Skip if: You are looking to buy brand-name electronics with reliable international warranties. This is definitely not the place.

Crucial Insider Context:

• The Price Trap: Although retail shopping is available, prices here are often higher than what you can find on Chinese online platforms.
• Spotting Fakes: While brand-name products are sold, you must be extremely careful—refurbished, modified, or counterfeit (fake) devices are very common.
• No After-Sales Service: Cheap, unbranded electronics are everywhere, but their quality is highly inconsistent. Many stop working within a few months, and there is absolutely no warranty or after-sales support.

Wutong Mountain

Standing at about 944 meters, Wutong Mountain is the highest peak in Shenzhen. While it might not be a globally famous landmark, it is widely considered the absolute favorite hiking destination for local outdoor enthusiasts.

There are 6 different trails up the mountain, but the shortest and most efficient route to the highest point is the Xiutong Trail (秀桐道).
