Zhuhai Chimelong Ocean Kingdom Guide
Opened in 2014, Chimelong Ocean Kingdom is one of the world’s largest marine theme parks. The park covers 1.32 million square meters, making it larger than California’s Disneyland Park (850,000 square meters) and close in size to Tokyo DisneySea (1.48 million square meters). The park is best known for its whale shark aquarium and thrilling roller coasters.

Opening Hours: 10:00 AM – 9:00 PM Ticket Price: From RMB 395 for adults. Tickets can be booked through Trip.com.
Express Pass
Chimelong Ocean Kingdom offers an express pass called EasyPass. You cannot reserve EasyPass online. Instead, after entering the park, look for staff members holding signs along the main pathway to buy it. There are two options:
- Around RMB 380: One-time express access per selected ride.
- Around RMB 480: Unlimited express access for selected rides.
- Guests staying at official Chimelong hotels, like the Penguin Hotel, usually get a 15% discount. However, prices may go up during the summer peak season.
My Recommendation: If you are visiting during the summer vacation or major Chinese public holidays, buying an EasyPass is highly recommended. On regular weekdays, you probably don’t need it.
Food and Drinks
There are plenty of restaurants inside the park, and you are also allowed to bring your own snacks and drinks.
Height Restrictions
- Below 90 cm: Only suitable for aquariums and exhibits.
- 1.0 m and above: Can enjoy most attractions.
- 1.2 m and above: Can enjoy all attractions except the Parrot Coaster.
- 1.32 m and above: Can ride the Parrot Coaster.
How to Get to Chimelong Ocean Kingdom
Chimelong Ocean Kingdom is located in Zhuhai, a coastal city in southern China. To visit the park, you will first need to travel to Zhuhai by plane or high-speed train.

From Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, and Other Major Cities
If you are traveling from cities far away from Zhuhai, flying to Zhuhai Jinwan Airport (ZUH) is usually your best option. From the airport, you have two ways to reach the park:
Option 1: Ride-Hailing Service (Recommended)
- The easiest way is to use a ride-hailing app like DiDi.
- The drive takes about 40 minutes and costs around RMB 100.
- (A regular airport taxi will usually cost over RMB 150).
Option 2: Airport Railway + Taxi/Walking
- Follow the signs at the airport to Zhuhai Airport Railway Station.
- Take the train to Zhuhaichanglong Station.
- The ride takes about 15 minutes. Adult tickets cost RMB 15 (children’s tickets are half price), and you can buy them from the self-service machines at the station.
- Note: Even though the ticket says “no assigned seat,” the train works just like a subway—simply hop on and sit anywhere you find an open seat.
Once you arrive at Zhuhaichanglong Station:
- If you are staying at the Chimelong Penguin Hotel, take Exit 2 and follow the signs. The hotel is just a 10-minute walk away.
- If you are staying at another hotel, it is best to call a DiDi right outside the station.
From Nearby Cities (e.g., Guangzhou)
If you are coming from nearby cities, the high-speed train is the way to go.

Example from Guangzhou:
- Take a high-speed train from Guangzhou South Railway Station to Zhuhai Railway Station.
- Travel time: ~1 hour | Price: ~RMB 70 | Bookable on Trip.com.
- From Zhuhai Railway Station, you can take a DiDi directly to the park.
- Travel time: ~30 minutes | Cost: ~RMB 70. (This is the most hassle-free option!)
Alternative (Taking the local train):
- You can also transfer to the local railway inside Zhuhai Railway Station and head to Zhuhaichanglong Station.
- Travel time: 20–30 minutes | Price: RMB 11 (buy at the station’s self-service machines).
- Insider Tip: Even if your ticket shows a specific train number and “no assigned seat,” don’t stress if you miss it. You can just catch the next train. It basically runs like a subway—just board and take any open seat.
- After arriving: Penguin Hotel guests can use Exit 2 (10-minute walk); others should grab a DiDi.
From Macau
If you are coming from Macau, it’s incredibly close:
- Take a free casino shuttle bus from your Macau hotel to Hengqin Port.
- Go through immigration to enter mainland China. (Keep in mind that since Macau is a Special Administrative Region, you will need to clear border control here).
- Once you cross the border, grab a DiDi straight to your hotel. It only takes about 10 minutes and costs around RMB 20–30.
Where to Stay for Chimelong Ocean Kingdom
There are four official hotels inside the Chimelong Resort area. Choosing the right one depends on your budget and what you prioritize:

- The absolute closest hotel to Chimelong Ocean Kingdom—just a 5-minute walk.
- Perfect if you want to pop back to your room for a quick rest during the day.
- The buffet restaurant has a penguin viewing area, so you can have breakfast right next to real penguins!
- The facilities are getting a bit old.
- Rooms are smaller compared to the other official hotels.

- The most budget-friendly official hotel.
- Only a 10-minute walk to Chimelong Ocean Kingdom and a 3-minute walk to the Chimelong Theater (circus show).
- Older facilities and smaller rooms.
- It’s the smallest property among the four hotels.

- The largest hotel here, offering spacious rooms and the best upscale resort vibe.
- Features both indoor and outdoor water parks (note: the outdoor section is summer-only).
- The most expensive option.
- It’s a bit farther—about a 15-minute walk to the theme park entrance. (However, there is a free shuttle bus every 5–10 minutes, and the ride takes just 2–3 minutes).

- The newest hotel with the most modern facilities.
- Directly connected to Chimelong Spaceship (the other massive indoor attraction).
- The farthest from Chimelong Ocean Kingdom. You’ll need to take the free shuttle bus, which takes about 5 minutes.

Crucial Tips on Staying Nearby & Getting Around
- Free Shuttles: Penguin, Circus, and Hengqin Bay hotels all provide free shuttle buses to the Chimelong Spaceship park.
- Staying Outside the Resort: There are plenty of non-official hotels nearby. For instance, the Hyatt Regency Hengqin offers great value for money. It’s about 6.5 km away and takes around 12 minutes by car.
- The Post-Fireworks Trap: If you stay outside the resort, be prepared for a transport headache after the evening fireworks show. During peak times, you might wait 30 minutes or more just to get a DiDi, or end up paying up to 3 times the normal price to get back to your hotel.

Walrus Splash
Another classic water coaster featuring a steep plunge and a massive splashdown.
- Stats: Max drop of 21 meters, hitting speeds of 64 km/h as it hits the water.
- My Tip: Watch out for the short backward movement before the final drop—for many riders, this part feels even scarier than the actual plunge! (You will get wet, so a poncho is highly recommended)

Symphony of Ocean (Nighttime Spectacular)
This is Chimelong’s nightly grand finale—a bonkers multimedia show over the central lake. It seamlessly combines fireworks, drones, lasers, fountains, and water screen projections.
Location: Hengqin Ocean (the scenic lake in the center of the park)
Show Time: 8:00 PM daily (lasts about 15 minutes)
Best Viewing Spot: You can see it from almost anywhere around the lake, but the area directly facing the giant Whale Shark Aquarium offers the absolute best view.

Don’t skip this just because it looks like a kids’ show! It is actually one of the park’s most impressive indoor attractions.
The Screen: It features a massive 180-degree curved screen (88 meters wide and 18 meters high), which is about the size of five standard IMAX screens combined. It’s one of the largest permanent 3D screens in the world.
The Experience: The theater has over 1,000 special-effect seats that move, vibrate, spray water, and even release scents to simulate flying and diving.
Good to Know: The movie lasts about 13 minutes and follows the adventure of Kaka Tiger protecting the ocean. Don’t worry if you don’t speak Chinese—English subtitles are available.

- Animals you can feed: Otters, sea lions, walruses, pelicans, and rays.
- Cost: Quite affordable, usually around RMB 30 per session.
- Important Catch: These feeding sessions only happen 2 to 3 times a day. And since the park doesn’t have an official app, the exact schedule is only posted on the physical information boards near each attraction’s entrance. Make sure to check and snap a photo of the signs as soon as you arrive!

Chimelong Spaceship vs. Ocean Kingdom: Which Should You Choose?
Animals: Ocean Kingdom has a much wider variety of animals. Spaceship focuses heavily on marine life.
Rides: The rides in Spaceship are gentler and more tailored for younger kids.
The Big Differences:
- Spaceship is 100% indoors, making it perfect for dodging rain, typhoons, or the brutal summer sun.
- Spaceship houses one of the world’s largest indoor killer whale populations (around 14 orcas).
Best For: Families with kids under 10, or hardcore aquarium lovers.
Top Highlights & Survival Tips
- The indoor layout is huge and confusing. Many visitors find it incredibly easy to get lost. Give yourself extra time to find your way around.
- Show schedules change constantly. Always check the physical signs at each attraction entrance when you arrive.
Bermuda Adventure
A highly rated 4D motion-theater experience that runs continuously.- The Experience: ~5 minutes long. The seats tilt up to 30 degrees, combined with special effects like wind and water mist.
- The Story: A thrilling sea voyage where you encounter a mysterious sea monster.
- Watch: WORLD’S LARGEST Motion Simulator (304 Riders)

Deep Sea Killer Whale Encounter
This area allows you to watch the giant killer whales swimming underwater through a massive viewing window.- Duration: ~15 minutes.
- When: Happens at fixed times, usually around 11:00 AM and 3:15 PM.
- Watch: Chimelong Spaceship Orca Show: The World’s Largest Indoor Theme Park

Killer Whale Show
A live orca presentation over water that combines educational content with trainer interactions.- Duration: ~40 minutes. Usually at 12:00 PM and 4:30 PM.
- Honest Review: Don’t expect a retro, high-flying animal stunt show. Due to modern animal welfare standards, the show focuses heavily on educational talks and trainer presentations. The actual whale action is relatively limited. (If you sit in the splash zone, you will get wet—ponchos are sold nearby).

Hidden Gems for Kids (That Adults Might Skip)
Mermaid Fantasy Show(~10 mins)
A cute underwater performance where synchronized swimmers dressed as mermaids interact with manatees.- Show times: 11:20 AM, 1:20 PM, 2:20 PM, 3:30 PM, 4:30 PM.

Deep Sea Submarine
- The Downside: The wait times can be brutally long for a ride that only lasts 5 minutes, and adults might find the artificial scenery and basic fish a bit underwhelming.
- The Upside: Very young kids with a big imagination still find it incredibly magical and exciting.

Appendix 2: Chimelong Show
The Chimelong Show is a massive, world-class circus performance held at the grand theater next to Chimelong Ocean Kingdom (about a 10-minute walk away). The theater features a 270-degree panoramic circular stage that seats up to 6,000 people.
The Acts: Expect high-flying acrobatics, horse stunts, and classic circus comedy, directed by descendants of a famous Russian circus family.
My Take: The overall reviews are great, but the style is very similar to traditional European or international circuses. If you’ve seen a lot of Cirque du Soleil or major global circus shows, this might feel familiar. However, it is an absolute must-see for families experiencing a grand circus for the first time.
Show Time: Every evening at 5:00 PM (doors open at 4:00 PM). During holidays or peak weekends, an extra 8:00 PM show may be added.
Duration: ~85 minutes.
Tickets: From RMB 395 (varies by seat category). Can be booked on Trip.com
